The Islands: Magnetic Island is only a 25 minute ferry ride from the city of Townsville. Two-thirds of the island is protected by national park and here one will experience extensive walking trails and breathtaking beaches. The Hitchinbrook islands are home to one of Australia's largest national parks and one of the richest and most diverse mangrove populations. The 5-day Thorsborne Trail has been proclaimed by many to be one of the best walks in the entire world.
Mission Beach: Situated 2.5 hours north of Townsville, the drive to the beach itself is exquisite. Banana plantations, cane fields and historic towns colour the scenery on the road to Mission Beach. Once there, the activities are endless; reef fishing, scuba diving, jet skiing, snorkeling, the list goes on.
Great Barrier Reef: The Great Barrier Reef is, in itself, responsible for attracting droves of interstate and international travellers to Northern Queensland every year. Words can't possibly express the magnificence of the colourfully diverse marine wildlife. The enormous reef, twice the size of Tasmania, has been described by many as fascinating, intriguing and unbelievable.
Museum of Tropical Queensland: Located only 5 minutes from the City Centre and famous for its Great Gallery, world scientific coral collections and assortment of historical treasures.
