- The Buried Village: Only a 15minute drive from Rotorua, the village of Te Wairoa was destroyed when Mt. Tarawere erupted in 1886 and the village now exists as a living museum. Be sure to absorb the village's surrounding volcanic wilderness above Wairere Falls, breathtaking is an understatement.
